The Fishers Freedom Festival proudly announces the 2014 T-Shirt design winner.  Emma McCord of Riverside Junior High School will have her design featured on the front of the official festival shirt.  She will also receive a trophy, a free T-Shirt bearing her design, be featured in the 2014 Festival Guide, and ride in the festival’s main parade.  Emma McCord-1st Place

A festival selection committee sorted through approximately 2,700 entries that were submitted by February 14th and looked for creativeness and color selection.  All designs also had to be easily reproduced into a T-Shirt.

About 100 of the top designs from all age groups were placed for viewing at Fishers Town Hall earlier this year for all of March.  In addition, there were ten runner-up winners who were Peyton Dewaelsche, Belle Kohler, Marissa Boyd, Austin Springer, Anna Miller, Laura Stancato, Payton Abel, Ava Marquardt, Chloe Yorn and Sophie Wilkinson.

“I appreciate the recognition our students receive as well as the opportunity to further develop pride in our community,” stated Fall Creek Intermediate Art Educator Michelle Knecht.  “They feel as if they are a part of the community when they see their art on display at Fishers Town Hall and on the T-Shirts at the festival.  This was a wonderful promotion for the festival as well as for the arts in our schools.”

Applicants were required to be Hamilton Southeastern school district students submitting designs from either elementary school (K – 4th grade), intermediate school (5th and 6th grade), or junior high school (7th and 8th grade).  Submitted designs had to include this year’s festival theme ” Keep Fishers Beautiful,” the title “2014 Fishers Freedom Festival,” and a maximum four colors.  No computer drawings were allowed.  All designs depict a patriotic theme.

This year, the school competition winner was based off the highest percentage of enrolled students submitting one entry per student.  Fall Creek Intermediate won with 86% of the whole school submitting entries and received the $500 cash prize for art supplies and a plaque for their efforts ($250 from the Fishers Arts Council and $250 from the Fishers Freedom Festival).

The final 2014 T-Shirt will be available for purchase during the Fishers Freedom Festival, at the Fishers Freedom Festival Office in June, and off the Festival’s web site (www.FishersFreedomFestival.org).  All sizes are $10.  Proceeds benefit future Fishers Freedom Festivals.
