The 21st Fishers Freedom Festival announces its “2009 Schedule of Events” which offers one new event this year along with fireworks, 5K Event, live music, UFO Major Disc Dog Tournament, children & teen tents, cornhole tournament, scuba diving, dunk tank, two parades, basketball shoot, microchipping for dogs, climbing wall, water balloon launch, Teen Dance, Street Dance and more all on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28.  With over 60,000 attendees from all over the U.S., this free family event hosts hundreds of art & craft sites, business booths, food vendors, and free games booths.  water-balloon-launch

A wide range of events and activities will occur throughout the entire weekend and most events are held rain or shine.  Located at Roy G. Holland Park (One Park Drive) in Fishers, the Festival begins Saturday, June 27th at 6:15 A.M. with the 5K Event registration and run beginning at 8 A.M.  Opening Ceremonies start at 10 A.M. and includes the announcement of the “William D. Kehl Jr. Volunteer of the Year” award winner.  Saturday will wrap up with the Street Dance featuring the band “Toy Factory” and the Teen Dance from 7 P.M. – 10 P.M.
The festival continues on Sunday, June 28th at 8:00 A.M. with the Indy Disc Dog Classic registration and the nondenominational church service at 8:30 A.M.  The Children’s Parade for all kids to participate for free will begin at 10:00 A.M, the Main Parade will be at 4:00 P.M., live music by “Big Daddy Caddy” band at 6:30 P.M. and the fireworks occur at dusk. 

The Business Tent is open from Saturday from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and again on Sunday with just free games for the kids from 10 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.  Arts & Crafts vendors are open from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Saturday and from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Sunday.  Food vendors open at 10 A.M. on Saturday and 9 A.M. on Sunday for all day both days.

In the Entertainment Tent, some of their featured events on Saturday include singer Brook Roe at 10:45 A.M., the Hamilton County Law Enforcement K-9 demonstration at 11:30 A.M., Mik the Music Man kids concert at 12 P.M., Indiana Starfire Cloggers at 1:30 P.M., Not So Newly Weds game at 2:30 P.M., Flip Side Trampoline and Gymnastic demonstration at 3:30 P.M., Adult Bingo at 4 P.M. and country singer Austin Hicks and the Rattlesnake River Band at 5 P.M.  This year’s Bake Off item is homemade coffee cake and judging will occur at 5:30 P.M. 

child-entertain-puppetsOn Sunday, the Entertainment Tent will have Singer Danny Vachon at 11:00 A.M., Grace Trio at 12:00 P.M., Barb Young Children’s Folk Sing at 12:30 P.M., G. Scotten Talent Center at 1:00 P.M., and the Capital City Chorus at 2:00 P.M. 

A new addition this year is the Kiddie Run at 9 A.M. on Saturday.  Held in the baseball fields on the southwest side of Holland Park, it is open to any children who would like to participate.  And it is a great opportunity for the 5K finishers to watch and cheer on the kids as they wait for the 5K results.  “Hink” the Bulldog from Butler University, along with local school mascots, will be there to meet and greet with the kids.
