200 Student Designs Showcased in Art in Town Hall Gallery Exhibit at Fishers Town Hall March 8 – 31

FISHERS, IND. – More than 2,000 entries were submitted in the 25th Annual Fishers Freedom Festival T-Shirt Design Contest from Fishers elementary, intermediate and middle school students. Nearly 200 designs will be on display at Fishers Town Hall beginning March 8, 2013. The top ten designs in each grade level will be designated as finalists and Fishers residents will decide the final t-shirt art for the first time ever.

The 90 top designs were selected by the Fishers Arts Council this year as part of a new partnership with the Fishers Freedom Festival. For several years, the Fishers Arts Council has chosen the one final design after private review of all the artwork entries. In celebration of the festival’s 25th anniversary, the t-shirt design contest was expanded to recognize more students’ artwork and allow Fishers residents to play a role in the decision making.

“As one of the people who selected the final t-shirt design last year, I love this expanded version of the design contest,” said Jocelyn Vare, President of the Fishers Arts Council. “There are so many talented students and creative, colorful designs. I’m certain that Fishers residents will enjoy the opportunity to view young artists’ work as much I did last year. Residents will find that selecting a favorite is not easy!”

Students, parents and teachers are invited to attend a grand opening event for the special art exhibit on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. The top 90 entries, representing 10 designs from each grade level (K-8), will be revealed during the event, which will signal the start of voting for the final design. The exhibit will continue at Art in Town Hall for public viewing until March 31.

The finalists’ artwork will be featured on the Fishers Arts Council’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fishersart). A “like” on a finalist’s design will be considered a vote. The T-shirt design with the most Facebook “likes” by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 25, will be used as the art on the front of the 2013 Fishers Freedom Festival t-shirt. Fishers’ residents are encouraged to view all of the top 90 entries and “like” as many as they wish.

All finalist entries were selected based on their use of the theme, “A Quarter Century of Celebrating Freedom” and the name “2013 Fishers Freedom Festival.” The artist of the selected design will receive a free T-shirt and a trophy and will ride in the main parade and be featured in the 2013 Festival Guide.

In addition, the school with the highest percentage of entry participation will be awarded a $500 prize at the event for the school’s art department. The prize is provided by the Fishers Freedom Festival and the Fishers Arts Council.
