The Fishers Freedom Festival announces it will be hosting the 24th Annual Fishers Freedom Festival to be held on Saturday, June 23 & Sunday, June 24, 2012. Last year, we utilized over 300 volunteers that were essential to the success of the festival and have the same need for help with the planning of this year’s large-scale event.

Did you recently move to Fishers? Want to get involved with your community, but don’t know how? Students, do you need to earn community volunteer hours? The Fishers Freedom Festival is a great way to get involved. Individuals of various backgrounds are needed, but everyone is invited. We are also seeking energetic young and those young-at-heart volunteers who would like to give more of their time to work with all aspects of the organization from beginning to end.

All volunteer meetings are held once a month at 6:30pm on Mondays in the Fishers Freedom Festival’s office at 8591 East 116th Street in Fishers (south of Town Hall and 116th Street, and just behind Fritz in Fishers car dealership) except for three meetings in June. Meeting dates are February 27, March 19, April 16, May 21, June 4, June 11, and June 18. Even if you aren’t able to make these dates, there are so many other ways to volunteer for the festival as your schedule allows you.

We are looking for volunteers to help sporadically with stuffing and labeling envelopes, filing, and more miscellaneous office tasks. Most day-of-event volunteers work in two to three hour shifts during the actual festival, but we are flexible. No previous experience required. We currently need to fill the following event coordinator positions:

• Free Games Tent (Sunday, June 24)

• Children’s Tent (Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24)

• Silent Auction (Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24)

• Kiddie Run (Saturday morning, June 23)

• Grant writing or fundraising experience

The volunteer registration website will be up shortly.  Just click here.

Another way you can help the festival is by donating beads, buttons and any plastic scoops from powdered laundry detergent. These items are used in the Children’s Tent with arts and crafts. These items can be placed inside the festival office during office hours or left outside in the large plastic tub after hours.

With over 50,000 attendees from all over the U.S., this free family event hosts art & craft sites, business booths, fireworks, 5K Run/Walk, live music, national UFO Major Disc Dog tournament, children & teen tents, two parades, a street dance, food vendors, free games booths, and so much more.

Back in 1989, the founders of the Fishers Parade and Festival decided to have a community gathering to celebrate Independence Day. With the help of volunteers, the event originated as a one-day community picnic, parade, and a few games for the children. Due to the overwhelming participation by the public, this event grew to a two-day event.

The mission of the Fishers Freedom Festival is to encourage fellowship through civic partnerships and citizen involvement by creating a safe environment, developing needed community services, promoting family integrity and striving to improve the quality of life for every resident by investing in human potential.

The Festival is always in need of volunteers at different levels of participation.
